General Questions
- Do you accept checks or debit cards?
No. We accept CASH ONLY. A business may apply for a credit account by
contacting the main office.
- How much will my load of garbage cost?
We cannot estimate how much your load will cost. It is determined by the weight
of your load. The fee is based per ton (check Locations for current prices).
The minimum you will be charged is for 400 pounds. Key Center and Anderson Island
measure the loads. See Locations for current rates. The minimum charge per load at
these sites is one cubic yard.
- How do you know how much my load weighs?
When you stop at the Scales on your way in they will take a 'heavy' weight.
After you unload your garbage and return to the scalehouse, they will take a 'light'
weight. The difference between these two is the weight of your load and what you
will be charged for.
- Do you accept asbestos?
Yes. With the proper permitting from the Health Department.
- Which garbage items are not weighed?
Large appliances and propane tanks are considered specialty items and are charged
separately. These items will not be included in the weight of your load.
See Locations for current prices. Also, asbestos is a specialty item, which also
requires permitting by the Health Department.
- What can I bring to the transfer station?
You can bring anything except hazardous waste to the Hidden Valley and Purdy
transfer stations. The outlying transfer stations - Key Center, Prairie Ridge and
Anderson Island cannot accept large and bulky items. Those items need to be brought
to Hidden Valley or Purdy.
- Where can I take hazardous waste?
We do not accept hazardous waste (i.e. paint, lawn chemicals). Many liquid items
are considered hazardous waste. Please contact 253-591-5814 for further information
on this.
- Do you accept furniture?
Furniture is considered as garbage and is included in the weight of your load.
There are no extra or special fees for this.
- Do you accept car batteries?
Car Batteries are accepted at the Hidden Valley Recycling Center.
- Is there an extra charge for tires?
No. They are included in the weight of your load.
